Licence terms

Last updated 17 September 2026. Plain English on purpose — if anything here is unclear, email vale.scott00@gmail.com and I will explain it.

1. What you are getting

A free licence to use Your Pit Box on your own computers, for as long as you like, for your own personal use. You are not buying anything, and you do not own the software itself.

There is no activation code, no account and no registration. The download is the complete application; nothing is held back for a paid tier, and nothing expires. If you installed a version from before it went free, the activation code you were given stays valid on that computer, and you can move to the free build at any time by running the current installer over the top.

2. What you may not do

• Sell Your Pit Box, or charge anyone for access to it.
• Redistribute the software, in whole or in part, modified or not. Link people to yourpitbox.com instead, so they get the current build.
• Remove or work around the integrity check.

You may take the software apart to understand it, and you may keep backups. Any rights you have under law to reverse-engineer for interoperability are unaffected by anything here.

3. The integrity check

Your Pit Box checks at startup that its own launcher code has not been modified. If that check fails, the application refuses to start and shows a message explaining why.

To be explicit about what that does not do: it never deletes, moves, encrypts or damages anything — not the application, not your telemetry, not your files. If the check ever fails on a legitimate copy, which a damaged install or an over-eager antivirus can cause, reinstalling fixes it. Your recorded sessions in PitWallData are never touched.

4. You need your own AI provider account

The spoken radio runs on OpenAI's service, and the engineer's reasoning runs on OpenAI by default — or, if you choose, on another supported provider (Anthropic's Claude, DeepSeek, Kimi / Moonshot AI, or a compatible endpoint you configure) using an API key that you supply. That means:

• Those calls are billed to your account with that provider — your own OpenAI account by default. Your Pit Box itself is free; I never see, hold or charge that money.
• Your use of each provider is governed by that provider's own terms, not these.
• If a provider changes its pricing, models or availability, the features that call it are affected and there is nothing I can do about it. Everything that runs locally — telemetry, strategy, analysis, the dashboard — keeps working regardless.
• The spoken radio (speech-to-text and the engineer's voice) always uses OpenAI. Without an OpenAI key the engineer answers typed questions using the provider you configured, and stays silent on the radio.

5. What data goes where

Your session database and raw telemetry traces stay on the device unless you explicitly export or transfer them to another device. They are not included in developer usage reports.

When you ask a question that genuinely needs judgement, a compact summary of the situation and selected computed results are sent to the AI provider you configured — OpenAI by default, or Claude, DeepSeek, Kimi or your own compatible endpoint if you chose one — so it can answer. With cloud transcription, recorded audio clips are sent to OpenAI for transcription. If you enable the optional Realtime voice mode, microphone audio is streamed to OpenAI while a radio session is active.

App update checks

Versions with the update checker periodically request public release information over HTTPS. Automatic checks are on by default and can be turned off in Settings → App updates. A check sends only the platform (Windows or Android), not an installation ID, telemetry or API keys. The hosting service processes the network address to deliver the request. Updates are never installed automatically.

Optional usage statistics

The app asks whether you want to share basic usage statistics to improve Your Pit Box. Sharing is off until you choose it, and declining does not limit any feature. You can change this in Settings → Privacy & usage reporting.

If enabled, the app sends its platform and version, a random installation ID, and daily yes/no flags for app opens, active use, working driving telemetry, engineer replies, voice commands, lap comparisons and history-transfer starts. These help the developer understand adoption and return use. No telemetry values, race files, audio, conversation text, names, email addresses, API keys or hardware identifiers are included. The reports go over HTTPS to the developer's Cloudflare-hosted service. The installation ID is hashed before storage; the owner dashboard shows aggregate statistics. It is not linked to newsletter subscriptions, download requests or identities on other devices.

Offline reports can wait on your device for up to 7 days. Turning sharing off clears queued reports and the local ID; turning it on again creates a new ID. Reports already received are not automatically erased by turning sharing off. Daily records are retained for up to 90 calendar days, with scheduled daily cleanup; basic installation metadata is retained until 90 days without activity. Our hosting service processes network addresses to deliver requests and limit abuse, but network addresses are not stored in the usage database or shown in the usage report. The download page offers to take an email address, and you can skip it. If you give one, it is stored on my Cloudflare account together with the date, and it is used for exactly one thing: telling you when a new version ships. It is not sold, shared or linked to anything the software does. Reply to any of those emails, or write to me, and I will delete it.

If you leave a review on the site, the name and text you enter are published once I have read them, with the month you wrote them; I do not edit reviews. An email address you add with a review is used only to reply to you about it: it is not shown and not added to the update list. To keep spam out, a review is stored with a one-way hash of the connection it came from, which cannot be turned back into an address. Write to me and I will remove a review you posted.

6. Coffees

If Your Pit Box is useful to you, you can buy me a coffee. That is a gift, freely given: it does not buy a licence (you already have one), it does not unlock anything, and it does not create a support or warranty entitlement beyond what everyone gets. Coffees are not refundable, though if one was sent by mistake, email me within 7 days and I will send it back.

7. No warranty

Your Pit Box is provided as it is. I have tested it as thoroughly as one person can, but I cannot promise it is free of defects, that it will suit your particular setup, or that it will keep working after an update to the game, to Windows, or to OpenAI's service.

Do not use it as a safety-critical or financial decision-making tool. It is a companion for a racing game.

8. Limit of liability

Your Pit Box is free, and my total liability to you for anything arising out of it is limited to the amount you paid for it, which is nothing. A coffee is a gift, not a payment for the software. I am not liable for lost time, lost races, lost data, or any indirect or consequential loss.

Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected by any part of this document.

9. Ending the licence

You can stop using Your Pit Box and delete it at any time. I may end your licence if you sell or redistribute the software.

If I stop supporting Your Pit Box, your existing installation keeps working for local telemetry and analysis. Optional usage reporting cannot stop the app if its server is unavailable. Features using AI providers still depend on those providers.

10. Not affiliated with anyone

Your Pit Box is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or connected to Formula 1, Formula One Management, the FIA, Electronic Arts, or Codemasters. All trademarks belong to their owners.
